Supporting your body with Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture
For some, the journey to conception and building a family can be challenging, frustrating and disheartening. Many have been told that they are “infertile”, will have trouble conceiving or will be unable to fall pregnant. Some may experience frequent miscarriages. Or because of age, they may feel the urgency and pressure to have a family and that time is running out.
There may be concerns around diagnoses of Endometriosis or PCOS that falling pregnant will be difficult. Or maybe you haven’t gotten your period back after taking contraceptive medication for some time. Maybe you experience irregular cycle lengths, unsure whether you’re ovulating, have severe period pain, heavy or light bleeding, mid cycle bleeding or your period and health hasn’t been the same since an illness, a stressful life event, after ceasing contraception or a previous pregnancy, childbirth or miscarriage.
Working with an Acupuncturist is a holistic approach, where we investigate all factors that may be a cause of sub fertility and work to balance and optimise your health and spirit for conception and pregnancy.
How we work together:
The framework of working with an Acupuncturist to achieve your fertility goals:
regular Acupuncture treatments to balance hormonal, metabolic imbalances and optimise health for pregnancy
Thorough look at your health and medical history: Gynaecological history, significant tests and diagnoses, significant family history, surgeries and illnesses past or present that may be impacting on your ability to conceive today.
Thorough analysis of blood tests and hormone tests. Retesting after a few months of treatment to see trends and changes
If relevant, looking at male partner’s health, blood tests, hormones and semen analysis
Daily Basal Body Temperature (BBT) charting
Herbal medicine and supplements to support pre conception
Lifestyle support - Exercise, Nutrition, Stress management and Rest
Working alongside your GP/ fertility specialist where indicated
Support and helping you understand and navigate the fertility jargon - what’s important and what’s not worth the worry.
Acupuncture and Artificial Reproductive technology (IVF, IUI, ICSI)
The IVF journey can be associated with significant stress for many, both financially, physically and emotionally. Many women utilise Acupuncture to assist in neutralising the unwanted side effects from synthetic hormones and drugs, as well as the minor trauma incurred to the body from surgical procedures. Acupuncture is desirable, as unlike medications or herbal support, as there is low to no risk of interaction with the drugs/ hormones taken during the IVF cycle. Many recommend Acupuncture on the day of transfer after implantation to help secure the embryo . In the weeks following where there may be a risk of miscarriage or threatened pregnancy, acupuncture may also be utilised.
Acupuncture is another support tool for those undergoing IVF and may be helpful in reducing stress for those awaiting results.
